The 'Institute of Snow Research' is an attempt to enliven snow through exploring its vivid qualities. The imaginary Institute uses the aesthetics of scientific research to explore the agencies of the seemingly inanimate substance to reveal its relationship to us and vice versa. In four experiments, the project approaches the question of how we can empathize with what is widely understood as 'nonliving'.

Experiment No.4

Denotation: SNOW RESCUE

Time Period: March 2021

Description:

Snow is increasingly mistreated in the shared habitat of humans, animals, and non-living. It is most commonly taken out of its naturally preferred surroundings and collected in disgraceful waste fields. The Institute for Snow Research aims to provide this marginalized entity a refuge in the suburban area of Vuosaari. Here it is protected from mistreatment and discrimination.
