<sup>During my time as a Saari fellow, I expanded my research into non-urban environments, investigating alternative rhythms and relations beyond the structures and systems of the city. Centered on mapping the overlapping human-classified land surrounding the residency: conservation areas, historic and cultural sites, and farmland, the work investigated how human, non-human, and material bodies relate to each other and how they coexist within and across these human-made borders.

The work explores more-than-human perspectives on time and scale, asking how temporalities, movements, and material processes operate beyond human-made systems. Focusing on how boundaries (conservational, agricultural, infrastructural) shape relations between bodies, it explores how multiple agents inhabit and redefine these edges and how boundaries become active, porous, and sometimes ambiguous zones of relation. Within this framework, I also explored how, as a human body, I could embrace and remember the rhythms, speeds, and scales of the spring changes already present in the landscape.

Site-responsive practices, including sensory walks, landscape performances, attentive listening, and site-responsive writing, drawing, video, and sound recording, traced and translated relational encounters with place, allowing different layers of the landscape to surface through repetition, attention, and reconfiguration. These practices proposed situated and embodied ways of knowing that sit alongside scientific and historical readings of the site. I was discovering everyday through process and theory, bringing large-scale environmental processes closer to lived and sensory experience.

I presented initial outcomes of the work publicly during the Saari Residence Open House Day 2026 (April 18) through an open studio presentation and a site-specific sensory walk, “These words are meant only for this timeplace” (April 14), developed for fellow residents and staff. The work continues to evolve as an open process, tracing how relations among bodies, landscapes, and material systems resonate beyond Mietoinen into other ecologies and contexts in Finland and other territories.
