living archival: memory of the space outlines the relevance of individual experiences as a significant part of making-place. The sound map presents the extension of the city from a personal experience of place, which demonstrates a constricted lived experience of Helsinki as opposed to homogenized narratives presented in conventional maps.

The sound map, accessed on-site or remotely, provides insight into what walking as a foreign presence is like through the sonic traces captured along the paths. Breathing, pacing, and stepping are evidence of past encounters within each walked location. These recorded audio samples, placed along the physical sites via geolocation, reveal a place loaded with experiences and temporalities. As one wanders the paths, the audio samples intertwine with the city soundscape, creating an interactive and non-linear experience of places. The work aims to facilitate other ways of navigating the city.
